Game downloads are among the most popular of all app purchases made at the Google Play Market proving, once again, that games on android devices continue to rise in popularity.
We have reached the point now that there is so much variety and choice out there that it is hard to narrow things down to what can be considered “must have”. That said, if we were to pick five of the best games for android – and we have – then this selection of five of the must-have android games really does have something for everyone.
Must Have Games For Android 2016
1. GTA Vice City
Fans of this 2002 classic should be psyched that it, along with all of the other early Grand Theft Auto series, has been made available for Android and, despite the reduced screen, the game doesn’t miss a beat. For those that missed it the first time around, this, the third GTA release, took its players back to a vice-ridden Miami in the 1980’s after our hero, Tommy, gets involved in drugs deal gone wrong.
As a member of the mob, Tommy is ordered to retrieve the money and consequently comes up against local drug lords, Colombian barons, crooked property developers and a great deal of other seedy characters in a brilliantly fun game that, if for nothing else, is worth the effort for the in-car radio’s excellent 80’s soundtrack. If you have the android controllers or gamepads, it would be more useful to control the gameplay.
2. WSOP Poker
The annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) gets underway once again this month and this app, available on Android, is its affiliated game. For fans of the game or the WSOP brand, whose owners Caesars Entertainment have put it up for sale at $4bn, this app is a must. The play is smooth and clearly made by poker lovers for poker lovers, creating an enjoyable poker sim. As with most poker apps and sites, all the usual regulation features can be found here. Things like live chats, hand histories, free plays, stop clocks etc.
As with most poker apps and sites, all the usual regulation features can be found here. Things like live chats, hand histories, free plays, stop clocks etc. Plus, there is an added social element here meaning users can challenge and play friends to a game of either Texas Hold’em or Omaha on Facebook. If you’re looking for other casino games, where you can play for real money, it is a good place to start. There’s tons of reviews and guides not just for poker, but Android games like roulette, slots and blackjack (and the chance to win some real cash!)
3. Angry Birds 2
After taking the birds to Space, putting them through Seasons, transforming them, re-branding them into the Star Wars and the Rio films, Angry Birds parent company, never shy on monetizing a product, give the them there first ACTUAL sequel here, a few months before the mobile game gets a movie of its own to hit the cinemas. While not quite soaring the heights of the original, there’s still a decent game inside waiting to break out.
The gameplay is the same as ever, fantastic graphics classic finger ping, and there are some new features and abilities to try out, meaning it’s a still a refreshing update on the adventures of the birds, rightfully annoyed at the blatant eggy pig theft that has taken place. However, it has its hand open consistently for yet more of your money which ruins the enjoyment slightly.
4. Mini Golf Stars 2
Mobile crazy golf has never played better on mobile than with the Android version of Mini Golf 2. There’s not much to be said about crazy golf that you don’t already know. Silly little putting greens, filled with obstacles and angles that challenge the trick shot in you. But it is a format that lends itself perfectly to android touchscreens and this title certainly doesn’t disappoint. Aim your ball by dragging and holding, while set your power by tapping, all the while sussing out the different surfaces and how they respond to the balls are all part of the fun.
Providing you have the patience to see things through, you won’t need to dip into your wallet either. If, however, you want to make things slightly easier for yourself, you can do so with various in-app purchases and buy your way to faster progress with handy additions like the ability to try chip shots. Cool stuff.
5. Crossy Road
Flappy Bird meets a highly pixelated version of modern Frogger as if it were set in Minecraft land, yes, Crossy Road is excellent fun. Starting out by guiding a chicken to safety from a peckish eagle, the game has a structure and feel that keeps things fun as you keep going. And going. And going. All on the one life too. But it plays so well, that even though that is about it as far as game’s aim is concerned, simply tapping to move forward, dragging to move sideways, feels great and more than enough of a challenge.
The side cast of characters keep things fresh too, such as the tree hating wizard, while other characters only come alive in the game’s night time. Crossy Road is simple, yet not accidently so. It is apparent all the way through that a great deal of hard work and effort went into creating a really first rate android game.
