Ever since HMD Global had taken over the smartphone manufacturing department of Nokia it hadn’t produced a smartphone until Nokia 1. Nokia 1 is HMD Global’s first smartphone and it’s running on Android 8.1 Oreo Go edition. Nokia licensee HMD Global had made the announcement at the MWC Barcelona in February 2018. It is interesting to acknowledge that Nokia 1 gets to be the recipient of Android Oreo whereas several other high-end phones introduced since the start of this year are still waiting for an Oreo OTA update.
By no means is Nokia 1 akin to its most famed rival smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S9 or iPhone X, but even with its 9.5mm thickness, plastic body, heavy bezels, and a smaller screen size, it is still a workable smartphone for the most budget-minded customer.
Although Nokia 1 lacks the visual appeal, it does, however, offer toughness and durability, which is what Nokia is known for, at least in India. In the smartphone era where all smartphones are aiming for 6” in screen length, Nokia 1 sits at 4.5 inches and offers one-handed control that none other offers in its price range.
Speaking of the specs, Nokia 1 has a standard resolution of 480 pixels. It is powered by MediaTek MT6737M CPU with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage expandable up to 128GB, which is quite fair. Clearly, this device is meant for a below-average smartphone user.
With a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP selfie snapper, Nokia 1 doesn’t offer much in terms of high-resolution photo/video taking capacity.
Meanwhile, battery size is 2,150mAh and removable. This is a slowly disappearing tradition for most smartphone manufacturers. You could easily find a replacement or a spare if you ever needed one. Unfortunately, there’s no fast-charging option.
Nokia 1 price, launch offers, and availability in India
The market price of Nokia 1 is Rs 5,499 and it is available across all mobile outlets- offline and online. It comes in two colours- Dark Blue and Warm Red. Although Xpress On covers will also be available for Rs 450 each in Azure and grey or Yellow and Pink.
Speaking about the launch offers, HMD Global said in a press release that Reliance Jio is offering a cash back worth Rs 2,200 which would effectively bring down the price of Nokia 1 to Rs 3,299. Moreover, buyers will gain an extra 60GB of add-on data on their network.
To make this more secure, all users subscribing with Jio will be eligible for a 12-month Accidental Damage Insurance by Servify upon opening a savings account with Kotak 811.
Last but not the least, the purchase of Nokia 1 via Reliance Jio will also give users a 20 percent discount on their first booking ride with RedBus.
