The second biggest smartphone market in the world, India has today welcomed the Vivo V9 flagship handset. A launch event took place after which the pre-orders began on Amazon starting 3 PM.
What’s new in Vivo V9?
The Vivo V9 features a notch, like many other competitors but where it takes the lead is its excessive use of AI and Qualcomm’s faster Snapdragon 626 processor implanted underneath. Besides, the V9 also ships with Android 8.1 Oreo, which is so far only available on Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL & Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro that also come preinstalled with the latest Android offering.
Design & specs
The Vivo V9 resembles iPhone X is many aspects. First, there’s the notch at the top of a 6.3-inch Full HD+ AMOLED, 2280 x 1080 LCD & a 19:9 aspect ratio screen (90% screen-to-body ratio, 1.75mm narrow bezels, 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass screen), none of which is truly unique by any means. Frankly, every other phone in the same price range has more or less the same specs and feel.
The spec would also indicate pretty much normally used hardware but with a slight difference- the Snapdragon 626 Processor and Android 8.1 Oreo with Vivo’s own tinkering involving Funtouch OS 4.0 skin.
Other specs include a memory of 4GB and 64GB of internal storage, both of which are a bit light and could’ve been higher. There’s a microSD slot (thank God!), a micro USB port, a fingerprint sensor (rear-mounted) and a headphone jack. The device is powered by a 3,260mAh battery which is okay considering the competition isn’t offering anything better in this price segment.
A major decisive element in Vivo V9 exhibits in their usage of 24-megapixel selfie snapper camera, which critics say is too much close-up that anybody would want but clarity is never too much for those happy-smiley moments. In addition, the rear side also has dual cameras of 16MP and 5MP, where the former is the sensor with an f/2 lens and the latter is mounted for depth and blurry backgrounds, so you are assured of a high-end camera with the V9.
Although V9 isn’t the first in Vivo to feature a 24MP front-facing camera, V7, V7+ also have a 24MP mount on the front side.
