The Mi Pad was the very first device that features the rare Tegra K1 chip so many of the users were curious to use this device. Let’s now have a closer look the Xiaomi Mi Pad with detailed specification:
Design and build
Mi Pad has 202×135.4 x8.5 mm and 360g, the Mi Pad is quite bulky which is why you cannot use single hand to operate the device. This is not very shocking though since being a 7.9-inch tablet you don’t expect to operate it using one hand.
At the right side of the device is the plastic volume rocker and along with it is the chrome finish power/lock button. And on the left side is the tray for the microSD card slot. The top of the device has the headset jack, while down at the bottom is the microUSB port for charging and USB OTG.
The Mi Pad feels hard and well-made. However, in the end, the device becomes uncomfortable to hold because of the glossy body becomes slippery when it has collected so much fingerprint and sweat from your hands.
Display
The design looks very familiar if we compare between the Mi Pad and the iPad Mini. Xiaomi takes its ability for inspiration and further by putting together a display that has precise numbers.
The tablet features a huge 7.9-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels with 324 PPI pixel per density.
No wonder this is by far the best display in a tablet of this price category. Although the colors were not accurate, however, Mi Pad has to offer in the screen output department.
Performance
The tablet has a 2.2GHz NVIDIA Tegra K1 quad-core CPU, 192-core NVIDIA Kepler GPU, and 2GB of RAM. That configuration looks like it is a flagship device itself.
However, it is not the dual-core K1 processor, which uses a different structure and a powerful processor that Google had previously used for its Nexus 9 but the price Mi Pad offers the quad-core K1 which pretty high.
Camera
The Mi Pad boasts an 8-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus, but has no LED-flash and dedicated HDR mode. Also, there is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera on board.
The front camera, although is not that great but has a wide-angle lens and capable of generating decent selfies and should serve for video calls. The rear camera, on the other hand, has better optics which takes better and clear photos.
OS and Apps
The tablet runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6 on top. If you’ve experienced a Xiaomi device before like the Mi 3 or Redmi 2, the UI experience is quite similar but at a larger scale.
Storage
The tablet boasts 16GB of internal storage with 13.46GB as usable which insufficient for some people, although it has support for a microSD card of up to 128GB capacity.
Battery
The Mi Pad has a non-removable battery with a capacity of 6700mAh which company says it can deliver up to 11 hours of multimedia and 86 hours of music playback. Most of the users will usually get good battery backup while gaming.
On the other hand, iPad Mini with Retina Display has a much better battery life even though it has a smaller 6470mAh battery. Further, you can make use of the battery saver apps to get most of your phone.
